The area known as Driftwood Texas was settled as early as 1850 but didn't really get started until the 1880s as a supply center for nearby farms and ranches. The town was then known as Liberty Hill and soon grew to include a post office, a school, two churches, a cotton gin, and a general store. Despite its ups and downs Driftwood maintained a welcoming atmosphere but in 1990 the town had a population of only 21.

Today, Driftwood Texas is a prosperous, small but growing Hill Country community with attitude. It has over 2,000 residents who take pride in their homes and their community. Recent growth in Driftwood has topped 19% yearly as more and more people are seeing the benefits of this small community.
