Kyle, TX Real Estate

Kyle became a community when two area residents David E. Moore and Fergus Kyle (the town's namesake) donated land for a new town site along the International Great Northern Railroad Line that ran from Austin to San Marcos. Residents and businesses relocated to Kyle mainly from Mountain City and Sam Marcos and Kyle grew to a population of 500. Kyle incorporated in 1928 and in the 1940s was the only Texas town to have an all woman government.

Over the years the town has come to be known by several local landmarks including the red white and blue water tower seen from most anywhere in the town. The tower has a very bad habit of showing up in almost any picture taken of the town. The Kyle hanging tree on Old Post road is reported to be the smallest hanging tree in Texas and when a dead cowboy was found hanging from the tree a traveler cut him down and buried him nearby. This site became the Kyle cemetery and the Oak stands near the entrance.

Today, Kyle is a thriving small town in Hays County, 21 miles southwest of Austin. The town has recently completed its Downtown Streetscape project and the results are eye pleasing and the town has never looked better. The residents of Kyle number over 5,000 and are a happy and friendly lot who takes pride in the small town look and feel of their community. Along the main street you'll find businesses housed in early 20th century buildings where residents wave to one another as they pass by and are never too busy for a friendly chat.

Housing in Kyle is that of a small community. Homes ranges from those built in the first part of the 20th century, to homes built today. In the 1960s 70s and 80s home building in Kyle was consistent; then in the late part of the 1990s the number of new homes built in Kyle tripled over previous years. After that, building slowed again to a more normal rate. Today the median home price in Kyle is a little over $111,000. Homes in Kyle are often on large lots and set back from the street. Large trees separate most homes and many say the community has a park like feel. If a small town is what you're looking for Kyle may be the town you'll someday call home.

Hays Consolidated Independent School District provides education to the children of Kyle. The district has 17 campuses and educates over 15,000 students from several small and medium side area communities. The district believes in goal setting and the results lead to excellence within the district and the students who are a part of the district. Hays Consolidated ISD continually exceeds its goals as do the students with high test scores that produce a well rounded student. By the time students graduate, they are prepared to continue on in life or further their education.
