Weir, TX Real Estate

In 1856 a Tennessee native by the name of Thomas Calvin Weir settled in the area now known as Weir. He bought land and became a well known local as well as a successful farmer and is considered the founder of Weir Texas. The early success of Weir can be attributed to the fertile agriculture to the east as well as the prosperous ranchland in the Hill Country to the west. In 1893 the Granger and Georgetown Railroad put Weir on the map as a stop for the rail line and the town of Weir was officially established that same year. Weir is home to nearly 640 residents. The town is located just 6 miles from Georgetown and only 30 miles from downtown Austin.

Housing in Weir is a mixture of the old and the new. Small affordable and older homes with charm and character provide housing within the small city hub while newer modern housing can be found in the growing outer areas of Weir. The median home price in Weir is in the low $100,000 but homes can be found below this price as well as above. You'll find homes built in the late 1800s to today and the many years in between. Farms and homes on acreage are available and gives the community of Weir a rural feel and atmosphere. If a small town is where you'd like to live, Weir may be just what you're looking for.

The residents of Weir are happy and friendly. They are on average a younger group with an average income in the $40,000 range. Most residents commute a short distance to Austin and other larger towns and cities within the area. Local shopping is limited but does provide the necessities of gas and food but many will make the short 6 mile drive to Georgetown for groceries and other staples.

This sleepy little hometown community sends its children to the Georgetown Independent School district. This district is home to many highly rated and ranked schools including Georgetown High School which received Blue Ribbon status in 1994, 1995 and 1996. This ranking is the highest an American school can receive. The district is responsible for the education of about 9,900 students from pre-kindergarten through high school. Students and parents alike are very active in school and community and the result is a low drop out rate and high academic achievement.
